Killer Design

On the drive home I saw the best piece of communication I’ve seen in ages. Hand-painted on a whitewashed real estate agent board:

SLOW DOWN
PET KILLER!

Underneath the headline on the one side is a little R.I.P. and a little tombstone with sad little flowers around it. The reverse has the same headline but it bears an angry skull. The typography is so fucking tragic it can break your heart. (If you’ve got one to break.)

I cruised the street at a pet friendly pace but everyone Formula 1s along there 24/7. It’s a good back route. It’s sad situation.

Is it possible that this particular pet ran into a very slow moving car at high impact 180 pooch-powered speed? I once had a run in with a fluffy white cat while slowly pulling out of my girlfriend's driveway. A dog rounded the corner, the cat freaked and headed straight for the safety of my not so goodyear tires. No burning rubber or slamming on the brakes. I heard the thump and saw a little puff of fluff float up above the grill. Quite pretty actually. I thought " Egad! My paint job! Somebody slow that pet down, man." I attempted to dutifully carried the pancake cat from house to house, searching for it's rightful owner. It was tough. In the end I scrunched up a bar napkin with the words "sorry your cat is dead" written on it in blood, and taped it to the cats body with duct tape, and left it in the postbox of the townhouse complex. Now that is killer communication!
